BBall Team Logo Design Process

Monday, May 31, 2010

A friend of mine from high school is playing the league with his team "Redunkulous". This'd be my first time designing for a sports team logo. How fun.

Background:
-Team name Redunkulous.
-Bay Area Basketball Team.
-Mascot - White Tiger.

I've researched a series of upcoming and old school NBA logos. Majority has a animal/mascot figure in their logo. Some uses types with the net and hoops.  Some are more abstract.Browsing through the logos gave a good idea on the approach - definitely something less complex with no more than 2-3 colors.

Here's the first sketch I came up with.

..then I realized there's really no stripes on the tigers legs. Regardless, the overall design didn't quite had the "UH!" factor.

Sketch 2. Direct and basic tiger figure in the center with designed fonts on the rim of the basketball, which lay behind the tiger.

Detailing.

Result. First color way was black, white, and teal.

Then, by the votes of the team, they wanted the royal and gold Cali colorway. I added the dots to add texture to the design - a whole flat surface of the ball made the design look plain.

Home & Away  games.

1 Hour - Grocery shop

What could you have spent your hour doing?

Plan for tomorrow: wipe down my car and get oil change.

Bro had a project meeting. Friend pick-up.

Dropping them off. You know the class' done a great job when you see kids approach its project with a smile. The joy I receive from collaborative projects has always been far greater than solo ones. (Though, it still feels pretty dam good accomplishing any project.)

One of my favorites of all time.

I've been coming to this grocery ever since my first days in the States.

Grocery shop for parents.

Note: At Ranch 99, there are these self-serve tofu on the edge of the freezer, supposedly better.

Note to self: No matter where you find your tomato, it'll always taste bad. Unless they're showered with sugar.

End the shop with a few goodies from Sheng Kee.

"Pineapple coconut Bun." I think I got the wrong stuff.

Ham and Cheese Danish.

Lunch is settled.

1 Hour - Lunch.

Saturday, May 29, 2010

"Once you start to look, you begin to see."

Lunch time.

with Kev.

Is it me, or is this guy obese. Posing isn't quite an exercise now, is it.

Panda's the place. For college kids like us, easy access' priority.

2 more weeks till graduation. Topic of "if we had one more year, what would we be doing to our college life.." went well along with my broccoli beef and mushroom chicken. I really wished I have joined and get more involved with the campus design programs.

Kevin's matching with his food.

An hour well spent.

One Hour Photo Project - 12:40PM

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Random pick for the hour. Had to head to campus for few quick things.

Started 12:40pm.

Overcast.

Missed the 12:40PM bus. (Maybe there wasn't one at that time to begin with.) Tony waited with.

Spotted Cody.

Transportation. (when no rain.)

Met up with Rachel and Samantha for the UCD last words. "What do you love about UCD"

Saw Tim.

Shipped a few items.
