Camera Upgrade -> My 365 Project

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

I've been considering this camera for a long while and finally pulled the trigger.

Aside from all the technical specs, I chose this camera for a few major reasons:
It's canon's latest entry-level camera (as of 2010) - I prefer my camera to be light with capability of taking good photos, T2i's the perfect blend. It's also within my affordability range ( I'm using the printer rebate deal). Last but not least, the 1080p 30fps and 720 60 fps (for slow-mo) video recording features allow me to have some serious fun with filming.

Here's a closer look:

↑ First look, comparing to XTi, a couple of buttons are placed differently. The overall body design is curvier, smoother, and slightly larger. Grips on the T2i now has texture and placed at friendlier locations. The flash dock's sliver, I prefer it to be black like the XTi. Love the design.

↑ Since I've already invested in some lenses, I bought the Body only.

Content:

↑No surprise here.

Comparison: XTi (400D) vs T2i (550D)

↑ It's a couple of generation leap for this upgrade. Canon's put out XS, XSi, and T1i before the T2i, so there's almost improvements on every spec.

Though, T2i's a phenomenal upgrade, XTi's a really well made camera. My XTi, in particular, was a  birthday gift from a bunch of friends, so there's no way I'd sell it. (but everything has a price.  Just playin') Perhaps I'll post up a photo collection from the best moments I had taken with my XTi.

Now, to test shots.

You'll see A LOT more photos from T2i soon enough.

To kick start and break in my new camera, I'll be doing this:

My personal Tumblr! I'll post a picture a day. Hopefully.

Customized gift - for a special occasion

Sunday, August 29, 2010

Yesterday was Michelle and I's 2.5 years, I made this for the occasion.  Grabbed the tech-decks from a close by Toys-R-Us.

↑Carefully stripped away the cover.

Content:

Note: I really dig these lined up shots recently.

↑2 major components for customization: 1. The decks and 2. the back cover.

↑I lose these miniature screws all the time. Work on the project on light color surface and keep the screws together with tape.

↑The boards came polished. I used a fine grain sand paper to dull it down for primer.

↑Wrapped the edges with masking tape before applying primer. Must keep the wooden beige around the rim to preserve the skateboard look.

↑I bought this from a hobby shop. Used it all the time when I make custom Gundams. The matte primer finish actually look really good just by itself.

↑Used sand paper again to clean the edges.

Then, sketches for the deck itself.

↑I use acrylic for most of my project, since they're water resistant. I also have a set of thin fine bushes(some from Kevin) for detail art works.

↑First coat.

↑7th coat: the result of black background and bad quality acrylic paint.

Rough finish.

↑Most boards(slightly more expensive ones) seem to have a clear glossy finish nowadays. I use wood varnish to protect the design as well as giving that final touch at the end.

↑Reassemble the board.

Next, the back cover.

Spray paint - white flat.

↑Design and print out the cover on a heavier weight paper.

↑Trimmed the edges along the original cover.

BAM. The final product:

Full Potential Magic Mouse!

Thursday, August 26, 2010

This $70 + tax mouse's got multi-touch surface, but was only settable for 2 finger touches on mac's system preferences. Like..fuh real!? Not sure about you, I was hoping for A LOT more magical setting from this little guy.

Then, there came Ko-wei (the guy who made the 3D zeeb), who's also a big Mac guy. He introduced me to this cool application - MagicPrefs.

↑ Once downloaded, it allows you to customize up to 4 finger gestures.

Though, it boosts up the performance of the mouse, some of the gestures are a bit hard for the mouse to recognize.

↑ It can even increase extra scrolling speed, which I know some people have been complaining over the original slow speed. The app's pretty self-explanatory. Go check it out.

Cutting my own hair..

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

This post's dedicated to Nicole Koga, Rasikh Jawaid, Kevin Ho, and my wallet.

Though, I once tried to trim my hair after a bad haircut, this is my first time to lay down the blades myself. (with my sister's help for the back of my head, which still takes a few more tries to get a hang of it.)

↑My hair was almost thick enough for bullet proofing

Tools:

↑It was definitely more pleasant now I think about it.

Margaret giving me a hand.
