Hangouts - Tony's 23rd & Making of shoulder covers

Monday, November 29, 2010

Phew, hectic Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Felt much colder this time around - where were all the HOT deals?! I got a pair of jeans from Levi's for 40% off + free shipping. The End. That's a wrap for the holiday shopping story.

Anyway, while cruising the web- slick deals, blackfridayads, fatwallet- I dug out some photos that I took last week. Thought I'd share.

Tony's 23rd birthday!!!

↑Best birthday cake pie ever. Not too sweet. I didn't have to waste the overwhelming frosting like I did to most birthday cakes.

It was right after the [Red Balloon] event. Tony cooked a feast for celebration.

After a quick chilling period after dinner, it was time for doom. Admit it, you saw this coming.

↑Max looked like one of them Chinese ganstas.

We played "Power Hour" for shots. It's typically done with beer - one shot of beer every minute for 60 minutes. This time around, we took 1 shot of hard liquor every 10 minutes.

I'm a low tolerate, so bam:

I think I can still remember a glimpse of fun time.

Move on. This was before Tony's bday and the Red Balloon event. 2 weeks ago, Eden, Li and I spent the night making shoulder covers hoping to bring out that "classy/luxury" look for our t-shirt display. (..which eventually back fired.) Here's the making of..

I bought a HUGE piece of poly sheet for this particular project.

I cut out individual rectangles from the BIG sheet. Eden cut out each piece into the cover shape.

Li glue the shapes into the cover.

The same process lasted for 2 hours. 2 HOURS. I had a quick summer job at packing CDs before - the worst job that I've ever had. It wasn't difficult, but the continuous motion of the same exact thing can drive people crazy. (props to Eden and Li)

Eden played with light painting.

Courtesy of Jim and Tony - Honey cake and Aloe. FTW!

↑wipe yo-self.

Continue after snacks.

↑ Asian cups FTW.

2 more hours later: BAM!

We, then, headed back to my friends place. (Now that I no longer have a place in Davis.)

Chillexing.

↑ Sweet potato!

↑Alex and caca came out, too.

Fun times.

'til next time.

Marshall Headphone Unbox and Review

Saturday, November 27, 2010

My first unbox video. What's up.

 I go by B.C.Be.Seen. [bcbeseen]

I've been a big fan of those vids, never thought I'd give it a try. Nor Did I know it was going to be that tedious- multiple takes (on an unbox video!?) and 4 hours of editing (Hopefully I'll speed up after practice).

Here's what went down:

I had been looking for THE open ear headphones.

Been researching for months. It was brands after brands, review after reviews.
Some of the products I've came across:  Plattan, Eskuche, Sennheiser, Grado, Beats by Dr.Dre, Panasonic's, Sony, Audio Technica, WESC, Shure, Bose, Skullcandy...etc.

Many of which were great, but they didn't quite hit the spot.
Until I saw these:

Right there and then, I settled with Marshall, renown for quality amplifiers.

I stumble upon this pair during my research phase: There was no review of the product, yet. All I knew was Marshall's releasing their FIRST pair of headphones on Nov. 15th. Read Wired's [gadget news] and Engadet's [coverage] of it. As irrational as I could possibly be - I purchased it. I'm a sucka for good designs. It cost $99 + shipping.

It feels like the La ateliers Ruby (http://www.ateliersruby.com/) for headphones.

Marshall's been a quality amp builder, so I'm hoping that they'd do the same for their headphones.

Sidenote:
There's a new section on the sidebar - "My things"

I plan to do more reviews on some of the cool things I see. And that's where I'll categorize them under.

If you got any awesome products that you'd like to see me review, send me message: theimaginaryzebra@gmail.com

'til next time.

Red Balloon Recap

Monday, November 22, 2010

The last Red Balloon event. I felt super honored to be a part of it.
It was rather hectic, since aside from vending there, TIZ also had a "surprise" performance at the show. While I sound checking and practicing with the performers, Karen and Adrienne documented the event - majority of photos here were taken by them. Props!

We arrived around 3:30. Rainy day.

Adrian, Karen's boyfriend, has been helping us for the past couple of show. Thanks, man!

Tim! There's no way you'd be able to turn down a smile like that.

Josh swung by. Soaked.

Soon after set up, the show begun.

Anna, Ruby, and Donna from [Sheselle], [RubyIbarra], and of course, UC Davis! Son.

Moments passed, wish I've seen the performances while I was vending outside.
Next thing I know, Leejay Abucayan from [Leejaybeats] was auctioning off Cathy Nguyen from [lilcdawg]?!

Bidding begun, whoever got the highest bid get to be serenaded by Cathy and JRA [JRAquinomusic]!

This birthday boy won the auction with $90.

TIZ was lined up to be the first off intermission. With no introduction, we showed as a surprise(hopefully) to the audience.

It was a 6 minute piece crafted by the poppers at UC Davis. My job was to guide the audience's attention to the staircase, where they performed.

They nailed it. Moves were clean and on beat. Big ups to Popping Club at UCD.

Soon after, we have [Tyler Weinrich].

..then the headliner/ special guest - [Andrew Garcia]. Walup walup.

woot woot, with JRA and Cathy.

[Summer Breeze]!

Songbird.

From afar, [Square Marden]. Thanks for the smile Tasi. hah

Too cool for image stabilizer.

Met some ol' friends, too!

Though, weren't able to grab a picture of you guys, it was nice see you guys again after a long while - Nicki Sun [Nicki Sun], Dan Fontaine, Rachel Agana,  and Dawn Castro.

It was a great event! Wish I knew more about this while I was still in Davis.
Best of luck to Jennifer Tran and to all music lovers!

Francis' the man. He was the sound engineer at the event.

The girl that made all this happen:

Poppers!

Last but not least, the crew.

It was Karen's bday, woot woot!

If you'd still like to purchase one of the Red Balloon x TIZ tees. They'll be up tonight at 12AM in our [online shop].

til next time.
