MA Logo Development

Monday, December 27, 2010

Logo design's a riddle to designers (yet there's no right answer) There are all types of approaches - the color choices, the font type, the decision between whether to use graphic or texts, the details that can symbolize the company, the balance of complexity and simplicity...etc.
Logo's crucial to a company - Often time, it's people's first impression of that company.
They are fun design, yet challenging.

The Assignment:
-MA is an uprising professional insurance company that targets clients such as doctors, engineers, and dentists.
-M.A. are the initials of the last names of the 2 founders.
-They're looking for a logo that could reflect their company.

The Development:

The brainstorm stage: I'd jot down as many different possibilities as I could. You never know which of them might lead to that "AH, SWEEET" moment. At this stage of the development process, I wouldn't like to constrain myself with what I know about the company (except for the basic guidelines) - I'd try to go all out.

Guidelines:
-"MA" should be prominent.
-Work around those 2 letters.

I filtered down to a couple of concepts:
-In both serif and san-serif type faces.
-Complex and minimalistic approaches.
-I played around with fun lines and shapes that might not be seen in a professional firm.

Eventually settled for this concept:

Further developing within the concept to make it more fitting:

Instead of 2 separate letters, we want them to look like one.

Final modification:

Since it's a professional firm, they wanted to make sure it's as clear and as legible as possible.
A logo as simple as it seems actually came a long way.

Aren't logos tricky?

iPod Touch 4G Acquired!

Thursday, December 23, 2010

Man, I've been waiting for this moment.
I'm still under Sprint's contract for the next 6 months. Now that there are 4th gen ipod touches and 4th gen iphones, I think it's about time to play around with them. ..talk about being a laggard.

Never realized how efficient it is to have this around - Apple was right, there are apps for everything. Speaking of apps, any recommendations? (Something useful, I've already downloaded way too many games.)

I think 4th gen ipod touch really got the bang for the buck (when iPhone's not an option for me at the moment. But dyam, I really enjoy the latest iphone's design. ) Cameras on both sides, retina display..etc. Though, the camera's not nearly as good as ANY of the previous iphone models, it's still a camera. I'm using it to document things, not for lookbook shoots anyway.

Just a few quick photos with the device:

A poem by Cody's mom when I stayed over.

Not the best quality, but good enough for me. woot.

Just for fun, I've also uploaded a wall paper for my welcome screen to keep myself reminded.

Cisco & Bobbi Vie & Aroma Coffee & New peojects

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

San Jose for the day! Today's been fulfilling. While I enjoy working at home getting stuff done, it's always nice to walk out and meet people and expand my horizon on different perspectives.

Today's Cody's last day of his internship at [Cisco]. Before he returned his badge, I had to get a look inside, where all the magic happens.

↑ Cisco, the human network. Known for their servers and communication devices. To get a better idea of who they are.. in Transformer 2, remember the part when Megan Fox was chatting with Shia Labeouf via some internet cyber chatting device after Shia went to college? That device's from Cisco.

This is one of the complexes where Cody works.

↑Building 20.

Receptionist? psh..that's so 20th century. I was greeted by a monitor.

Cisco's no abbreviation - it's short for San Francisco.

Cody and new intern for Cisco - Josh.

↑Aside from his engineering skills, he's a foosball all star.

Cody's work space.

State of Art - something that brings tear and joy - tucked in the back of the lab.

↑ Josh was good, but I won. Despite the fact that it was just by 1 point. And Cody was on my team. Playing at the same time. While he was blindfolded.

↑Walls of routers, ready to be tested.

"This is madness."

"THIS. IS. CISCO!!!!"

↑It was rather noisy in labs - ear plugs are essential.

After touring around Cisco, I met up with [Bobbi] at a cafe he picked.

Place's called [Aroma Coffee], located in ESSJ. (Stands for East Side San Jose, just learned that abbrev. today. ha)

↑No joke. One of the best Vietnamese sandwiches I've tried.

↑The owner of the place. Real cool guy. He came up to me asking about headphones; he's researching for the right pair for his kid. As the convo went on, I learned that he used to do wedding photography with film  SLRs(with 36 shots a roll - every shot counts). Respect.

↑ Remain mysterious. Nope, the mosaic's staying even if you say "please".
We had a pretty insightful talk - sharing perspectives and ideas. Though, I've been to [a couple of shows he hosted], we never sat down and have a good chat. It was truly inspiring to converse with a great mind, who's also pursuing the riskier route to establish something of his own.

[Bobbi] dances, coordinates, plan events, teaches, runs on 3-4 hours a sleep a day. Best of all, he's down to earth and not some egocentric snob. So, expect big things.

Now, I'm back at Cody's place working on a few new projects.

↑This. is not one of them. Pretty awesome, though, yea? an 8 by 8 LED cube - still under development.

↑"This is madness."

AMPM Poster Project - Make your own poster!

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Just a random idea developed from a to-do-list to a DIY poster project.

Everyday's different - why not pick one out and make it something tangible - your very own one of a kind poster.

↑That's the canvas..

..and here's the content:

↑Running errands - shipping out the shirt orders with brother.

↑Been too long since I last cleaned my room. Hence, room cleaning.

↑Making of my 365 project. [via tumblr]

↑Grocery shopping.

↑ I started to like Coke again.

↑ Did some driving. with jim's prius.

↑Designing and all sorts of internet stuff.

..And that was my day. Here comes the fun part:

↑ You can either recall what you did all day and start plotting it on the poster.
OR you can use the poster as a to do list as you use take it with you through your day - all the dents and pencil markings from the adventure its done in your pocket really shows character. You never know how well it'd look at the end.

Regardless, be creative with it. Make your own poster.

Here's mine - something simple.

I made it in 8x11 so everyone can print out through their household printers.
[Download the poster. click here.]

If you'd like to show all the fellow zeebs (that's how we call it here, in our TIZnation) just a day of your life, feel free to send in your poster! [theimaginaryzebra@gmail.com]
