Fashion Je T'Aime - Planning & Practice

Saturday, February 26, 2011

Next Saturday's our 4th time attending the annual charity fashion show host by [Student Fashion Association.] It's always been a fun experience from planning, practicing, to executing the show.

The idea of a fashion show is using it as an outlet to display your clothing on beautiful models and making the apparel extra appealing. Though, that may be one of the goals I'd like to reach, I also see it as an opportunity to leave the audience an instinctive impression of who we are and what we strive to do. And there's no better way to achieve that than by throwing a performance with the people that are passionate at what they do:

Aside from displaying our graphic tees and apparel, I like to convey a sense of our lifestyle through these shows, which is why we always like to throw in some dance moves and surprise elements.

You'd have to come to see what we have in store, but here are some quick glances of our practice sessions:

Come through: [Event Page] $5 pre-sale at freeborn and $8 at the door.

'til next time,

Visual Communication Panel

Friday, February 25, 2011

FILAH hosted a career panel last night, I along with a few post-grad friends,  who are also striving to make a living with what we enjoy doing, were invited to be the panelists. It wasn't a huge crowd, but everyone was really enthusiastic - I had a terrific time.

Though, the theme was "Visual Communication", which wasn't exactly my field of work, I'm glad I was able to contribute my 2 cents on some of the general "business" type questions. By listening to  Nicki and Andrews' answers towards some questions, it became obvious that having the right attitude is the foundation of great work and the core force to push through the obstacles regardless of which field you're in.

Andrew, one of the panelists, from [Square Marden], a multimedia company that help discover and spread the name of upcoming YouTube Artists. And Jen, who hosted [Red Balloon] a few months back, came out to support!

"You start learning when you feel that you're in lack of something."
..and not when you're forced to learn. And there's no way to see what you're in lack of until you go out there and start practicing whatever it is that interests you. James Cameron, the guy from Titanic, Alien, and Avatar, studied on his own time at the USC library about filming techniques when he tried to make his first film - an alternative ending for Star Wars. The alternative ending didn't make it to the theater, but he sure learned a crap load from the making of it- much more than what it would've been if it were an assignment forced upon by his parents. I'm just saying.

[Nicki] was the other panelist. Aside from being of the members of Aggie TV, she's also done hosting for shows, interviewed Far East Movement and Bruno Mars, and nailed a job so rare in the media fields - the company had to invent a new job title just for her.

↑The [Aggie TV] crew!

She strongly recommended "craigslist" as an outlet to put yourself out there!
Don't be afraid to ask questions. And keep expanding your horizon - you never know when you'd hit the jackpot. Beatles took 7 years of non-stop playing around bars in hamburg before making to the U.S. Spike Lee had years of macaroni and cheese for meals before becoming a world renown director.
You just got to keep pushing and keep hustling.

↑ Rachel from [Aggie TV] and [Explorology]!

↑ Kenneth, known this guy since freshmen year. And Kaye, the president of FILAH. I'm sorry, this is the only picture I had of her.

Kenneth made the stickers look like they're a million buck.

Sorry for the lack of photos - battery died. RIP.

But it's alright, because passion's what fuels us. word?

'til next time,

My 23rd Birthday.

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Nope, I did not get wasted. I did, however, spent the day with my fam bam. San Jose's the destination.
There's a quite a few places to cover:

↑Phone numbers and possible alternatives scattered across the page.

To help you visualize the schedule better, I asked Google for help:

↑The "Big Dip" much?

First stop:

↑Weather: Sunny. To squeeze the most of the sun, we planned a series of outdoor locations. But it's only as good as the snacks we bring, so we swung by "Paris Baguette", where they offer delectable breads if not the most mouth watering.

What was he peeking?

Exactly this:

Wipe yo-self.

Quick lunch - Korean food.

mmm.

Next stop: Municipal Rose Garden.

↑Fail on me - it's not even the rose season. Though, they did have fresh air and plenty of sunshine.

↑Just hangin'

Parents were sassy (mainly my dad.)

↑Picture on the right's my all time favorite - Dad was a moose. word?

Miles, one of the volunteers at the rose garden, gave us a couple of rose planting tips. 40 minutes worth of tips. It was easy to see his passion for gardening. And that's actually how you point out someone's passion - discover the topic that the person just can't shut up about - but sometime's disappointing because the topic might just be "judging other people" for some folks. You know what Eleanor Roosevelt said, "Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people."

↑ Without them, there'd be no me.

↑Just climbin'

3rd stop - The Tech Museum of Innovation:

We checked out their current "Body World Vital" exhibit, but no photography allowed. Fun and all, I did find the museum itself 500 times more entertaining than the exhibit.

Surgery performing kit.

↑Actual size.

Moving on - Heritage Rose Garden. Not for the roses, but for the planes. Planes?! you ask.

Exactly:

↑They look a lot closer in person. It was pretty awesome to see a 125,00 lb metal soar across the sky. right. above. your. head.

Quick stop at Michelle's favorite tapioca shop:

Dinner at QQ noodle:

Stay true to our root, Chinese food to wrap up the day.

↑Michelle made me a Canon cake. That's right.

Turning 23 felt surreal - mainly because I still behave like a kid. It marked another year, time to strive harder to make the next year memorable.

'til next time,
